Help please - decision in principle

Options
Hi everyone, I'm in desperate need of some advice! My other half and I are looking to apply for a decision in principle to allow us to book some house viewings. However, I've recently (very recently) changed jobs, and I don't yet have a payslip from them, and my last employer didn't provide them. My question is this, when we go to apply for the DIP, will they ask to see payslips, and if they can't be provided, will I be turned away until such a time as they can? I'm getting seriously worried that I may be jeopardizing the whole purchase!

    Who is "they?"

Sorry, by "they" I mean Nationwide, when I apply for the decision in principle.
  • Rogerwallen you are right to seek help here are your situation isn't conventional. Different lenders have different criteria and seeing wage slips, P60's tax being paid etc is normal when making a full application.

A DIP doesn't usually ask if you have wage slips its quite a basic credit and affordability check. There may also be a spanner in the works in that you've only just changed jobs - are you on a probationary period?

You don't need to arrange a decision in principle to view a property - more nonsense from estate agents.

Baffled how your previous employer did not provide wage slips? Do you mean they were online only? You are likely to need them.

Consult an independent mortgage broker, not one working in the estate agency.

  • I also don't receive pay slips but TSB accepted a employers reference. Don't know how that would work with a previous employer though.

For my decision in principle I just needed to confirm my salary and employer.

Only need to give a payslip if I do ahead.
  • I was always under the impression an employer was legally bound to provide payslips? https://www.gov.uk/payslips

Reading between the lines on the above link, it doesn't state that employers legally have to supply payslips, just what they have to include in them..... but from what i have read else where - if you ask to be supplied with payslips then they must provide you with one and in the correct format as it states in the above link (gross pay with a list of deductions)

    HTH

    Regards.
  • If its any help, all my payslips were in "digital format" when I got my mortgage, the bank (HSBC ins this case) was happy to see 6 months of bank statements with a regular salary payment in.
  • Have you thought about going to a broker first to make sure you are choosing the best lender for your situation? We had to avoid some lenders because my husband has only been in his new job for 3 months and is still in probation so therefore wouldn't fit their criteria. Theres no point in getting a AIP if it turns out your not going to fit their lending criteria further down the line.
