Best budget tablet - browsing/podcasts

Please let me know if this is in the wrong place.
Currently confined to bed for a few days and it has made me realise I want to buy a tablet - laptop is too big/clumsy and tainted by email/work. Have a work smartphone but don't want to use that.
Just want to be able to listen to podcasts and browse the internet a bit. Might use it for looking up recipes in kitchen when I am better. Don't watch videos, listen to music, game, take photos etc.
PC advisor says Hudl2 (Ebay only now) but am wondering whether even that is too much for what I want. Happy to buy seconhand if I know what I am looking for. I like simple and robust...
Any suggestions?
