  • Mojisola - thanks for this information. Him building up rights to the property is of course fine as ideally I would like to be able to add him to the mortgage once his defaults have fallen off his record and he has built up a credit history, but it's good to know this!

That's what I'm leaning towards doing, although my preference would be for us to buy the house together I don't want to have to go for a high rate because of his credit history if it can be avoided. And yes, the gifted part of the deposit is my family, not his
