New Boiler

Can anyone advise? My dad owns his flat and has been without hot water for 2 months because a communal pipe is beyond repair and he has been told he needs to install his own boiler (luckily he has an electric shower). He's 88 and I thought he would get help with this but, because he has a small works pension from the railway on top of his state pension, he's not entitled to Pension Credit and doesn't claim any other benefits, so it seems he's not entitled to any help whatsoever. The quote for a new electric boiler is £1300. We've also looked into getting gas installed (because he's over 70 he can have gas led into the building free of charge) but the quote for that, with new radiators, is £3,300. I find it hard to believe that a man his age is not entitled to any help with this. His savings are well under £10,000, so that's not the problem.

You could try https://www.scottishenergygrants.co.uk
I'm afraid I don't know the ins and outs but as you say, it seems likely he would be due some sort of allowance in his circumstances & age.0 -
A 14.5 kilowatt electric boiler can be bought for £550-650ish and would be fitted in half a day. £1,300 seems very steep, you should get more quotes.0

Different councils operate schemes for boiler replacement & central heating.
Maggiesoup1 is correct with that address.
