Season tickets into London from Cambridge

Season ticket travelcards for most commuters travelling in from outside London are a rip off, as they just want to get in and get out and don't use the ticket in the evening or weekends.
The train ticket price from Cambridge to Kings Cross is £4,692, so you are paying an extra £1,280 per year for the tube/bus.
Most commuters will only use the tube twice a day, so £1,080 per year. Are you really going to use the tube an extra 125 times a year?
Also if you start late and work late, then the cost comes down to £720 per year, so you would have to do an extra 350 journeys a year.
whilst they are more expensive they do come with added benefits and do mean you can have a day trip with the family getting a discount to into London, see a show or whatever so you don't have to do the extra 125 tube journeys a year to make the most out of it.
Plus with the gold card you can get discounts on other tickets also would you wish to travel within the validity of the goldcard.
If you are only going to use it for point to point and never us e the train again then you have point but I would think most people would use it for other things than just commuting if they had one."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

There's no (useful) route to Victoria that way0 -
It depends on the valid routes (does it include Charing Cross BR?) and how much time the OP is willing to commit to saving money (there are bus routes from E&C to Victoria).0

Won't a London Terminals season be just as good?0 -
I'll try make a few comparisons and get back to you all - thank you for the ideas/options this stuff can get overwhelming0

Do you need a Travelcard season to get a Gold Card?

Most people commuting from Cambridge are not going to make an additional 125 tube trips on evenings or weekends out a year, which is why a travelcard is terrible value.0
