Solicitor referral by Mortgage Adviser

Options
Hi,

We are first time buyers and we are using a national mortgage advisers company. They have quoted us legal fees for conveyancing through a solicitor they are referring us to beginning of last week. I have been trying to get the name of the solicitor who will be dealing with us, but all we have so far is the law firm name. I phoned the firm and they said they don't have us on their files.
Spoke to the mortgage adviser again and he made me feel really daft for asking for a name - he said our mortgage application needs to go through first and then we will be referred; the solicitors will be acting on behalf of the lenders, but as we don't have a lender us such yet - we don't have a solicitor. I really don't get that? We are the ones paying the legal fees? The solicitor of the other side of the purchase has already prepped and posted paperwork to 'our' law firm, but couldn't address to a specific person and I'm worried it will just get lost.

The process normally works like this.

The broker will know the solicitor firm from the quotation process.

The 'work' on your case is not allocation until the solicitors have been instructed to work on your behalf.

That is why the don't have the name yet. But does not excuse their poor communication.

Your paperwork is not more likely to get lost or found with or without a name in all honesty. They tend to file based on postcode address and client name.

The broker will tend to make this instruction as the mortgage application goes in.
