Buying wedding dress before date is booked. Bad idea?

Me and my partner of 7 years are engaged and are hoping to book our small wedding this summer and hoping for a date in Jan 2018 to go with our anniversary. We should have enough money to book everything or most things this summer.
My aunt is a dress maker/tailor and I showed her an idea of a dress I am in love with for the wedding and have loved this dress since I saw it a few months back. She offered for me to come into her studio this week and she could measure me to design it and get it made. She said I won't have to pay for it. Should I get it made now or wait? She is emigrating next year so I might not be able to get it made my her before the wedding if not now. My weight doesn't fluctuate so that shouldn't be a problem and I don't see me going off the design and I don't see me and my boyfriend breaking up. I just find it a bit weird having my dress in before the wedding is fully booked but I don't want to miss out and it would be one less thing for me to deal with when wedding plannng.

What an opportunity... Do it!
Just read back what you've written and the pros: your weight doesn't change, your aunt is happy to do it before she emigrates, you're confident in the wedding going ahead.
I don't see any cons other than you may need to have the dress dry cleaned before the wedding to freshen it up.0 -
I bought a dress on sale two days after we got engaged. I figured if I like it and it fits - job done! We haven't set a date yet, or even a country (we're both from different parts of the world and live in the UK)!
I do have a niggling feeling that I might find something better later on... But I'm super conscious of sticking to a budget, so I hope I get over it ;-)
Your 'pro' lists sounds a lot longer than mine!0 -
And if the Fates *do* overtake you something wicked, you've got The Most Stunning fancy dress in which to play Miss Haversham.
If anyone asks, it's a family wedding dress & thus comes with love & luck in every stitch.
Seize the opportunity, and very best of luck!
P.S. Keep Reading the MS Boards!0 -
I would also take the opportunity to do this. It's a big worry, not being able to find the right dress, so if someone's offering for free and you love it, then do it.If you know you have enough, you're rich.0
