Issues LHD Import Brought from Germany Uk Company
Options
Brought a VW T4 Camper Pop Top from Germany with a UK based company handing the transaction Inspection Vehicle and offering a 6 Month Warranty.
They told me they Inspected it was good for Age 15 Years and Mileage had Full Service History.
I Agreed on handing Transport (Driving it back) and Registration.
Picked it up and Brought it back to the UK and found it only has Part Service History.
Have taken it for MOT and these are the Issues.

22. Brake hose slightly deteriorated offside offside front
23. Brake imbalanced requirements only just met it would appear that the braking system requires adjustment or repair.
24. Brakes imbalanced requirements only just met.
UK Warranty for Brake only covers Master Cylinder.
German Ad Stated it had only just been serviced and Water pump and Cam Belt was done but have no idea.
Noted Couple Issues are due it being a LHD these were to be fixed if they where the only Issues,

For a 15 year old vehicle there is nothing in that i would find out of order.
Headlamps are set for a LHD drive vehicle fit some RHD lamps.
Brakes need a gopod service and possibly a new caliper, is it actually leaking or did they use WD40 to unstick it?
A used car warranty on a 15 year old vehicle would be a waste of money.
Unless you fancy a trip to Germany to sue the seller your a bit stuck with it really.
Have you asked the company you paid about all these faults? They could just put it down to being 15 years old though.
I wouldnt trust the cambelt being changed unless i took the cover off and found shiny writing on the belt.
I always used to change the belts on cars i bought. A belt was under £20 or £40 ish with the kits.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I bought it from a LHD UK Company based in the UK who in turn bought it from a German Dealer I just collected it from Germany. I drove it back to save money .
"Headlamps are set for a LHD drive vehicle fit some RHD lamps." I am aware of this issue was to be sorted at the same time of the MOT if it was the only issue.
It had only just been serviced apparently. I have the option of rejecting it still.0 -
So what will it cost to fix the leaking rear brake calliper (they are usually seized and are not expensive), change the trackrod end and get the sidelights working?
You knew it needs headlights, and likely a rear fog lamp, as we need one on the offside.
Probably cost you more to drive it back to the seller and reject it than to sort it out.
I looked at a couple of VW campers last year, they seemed massively overpriced rust heaps to me- but what do I know? the sellers seemed convinced that they would easily sell for about 10x what I thought they were worth on a good day. (and quite possibly they did)
I bought a little caravan and a towbar for a lot less money in the end, although there are quite a few Talbots about in the same sort of condition for sensible money.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

For a 15 year old vehicle I would be happy to get MOT failure on just above points,
All easily fixed at no great expense.
But then I do all repairs myself.

You don't need to change the headlamps to pass a UK MOT.
They have to accept them as is but with tape over the kick-up that shines to the right. I use black electrical tape.
My camper does more miles in Europe than the UK so RHD lights
would be a negative for me.
Nothing I see on the list would warrant rejection - the thing is 15 years old - these things are normal.0
