We've had a septic tank for the last 15 years and have never bothered with 'eco' bleach products. Using ordinary bleaches - sparingly ! - doesn't appear to have had any ill effects on our resident bugs.

Needs must vary, but I haven't used bleach in at least ten years. The fumes make my asthma bad, so I just stopped using it. It's never been a problem. There are so far alternatives, often greener ones, to every task I used to use it for. Vinegar for example has been tested and proven to be an effective mould killer. Stains are often easily removed with hydrogen peroxide - and that too is another reliable mould killer. There are also plenty of things to clean the toilet with that aren't bleach. I like soda crystals most of all for cleaning the toilet, and find leaving the solution in the bowl overnight works particularly well when I scrub it the next day.
