Quitting Unison

Options
Anyone know if it's possible to cancel Unison membership whilst between jobs to save money? I hear it's quite difficult to get out!

If you want to resign, you can just do so. Nothing difficult about it. But there is also unemployed membership rates which maintain your membership with full benefits. I think it is around a fiver a year

Check your branch office, it used to be £4.

If you wish to resign, again contact the branch and confirm resignation with a short e-mail for traceability.

Just cancelling any DD or standing order should do the trick.

You then become a lapsed member with arrears.

Different unions may work in different ways, but I've just had a letter from my union saying that all I have to do if I want to cancel membership is to stop the direct debit.
  • Tell them you are changing industry/profession?

Once I had a reject because they didn't cover the industry I was working for.

It's not in the slightest bit difficult - I did it last year. I did the £4 reduced membership for a year as I was made redundant, then at the end of it got a reminder asking what I wanted to do next. No hassle and no hard sell.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I heard you had to call & they will put pressure on you- had some horror stories. I don't want a reduced membership I want to be out altogether when I leave my current job! I don't think just cancelling the DD is the way to go so will just call when the time comes.
