    OP,

That's rediculous! name and address to get *your* money back. It's probably a company that doesn't trust it's staff.

Forgot to ask. Why would anyone want their ears pierced in the shop window. Personally I like to weep in private
Long before I knew about the evils of piercing with guns that was what put me off getting my ears ierced at Claires. So it's quite a good system, as hopefully others have been put off too and have then gone to reputable piercing studios.

I must have been an MSE'er in training when I was 14 and just didn't know it. I saved on the cost by doing it myself, which was the 'in' thing to do where I lived. My ears were frozen with ice cubes, and pierced with a red hot (for sterilisation purposes you understand :)) needle which was embedded into a cork.

If my daughter did this....I'd be furious!

Sorry for hijacking a bit.......just brought back memories. :D

Yep thats what she told me. She had to have the info to prove she hadn't taken the money out of the till. Sorry you still can't have my name and address :D

I can't believe you did that. Girls in school used to talk of using a needle and bar of soap but I couldn't believe anyone would be that brave.
I have just gone through the tramau of changing little Poppy's earings for the first time. She had them pierced in March and had to have one ear repierced as it was ripped out in games in school and we couldn't get the earring back in. When I tried to change the earrings after 6 weeks the ear started bleeding so I put the original ones back in. Just put in new earrings a couple of hours ago after tears and screams of NOOOOOOOOOOO don't pull. I don't know who was shaking more. Got DH to do it in the end. He was quick and efficent and no blood:D

    Mortgage-free Glee!
some tills cannot just be opened, so in order to give back the overcharge it would have to be classed as a refund. And then no doubt would either havebe to be signed for or name/address given.

They know me at my local shops so no chance of giving anything other than accurate details! Not only have I complained about shortchange/overcharge BUT given back when too much change given or questioned when item less than expected (I am fair !!!)

Yes but its not the customers problem. If they make the mistake how they sort their till out is their problem. I do not need to give them my details.

I have worked in shops for years. The reason they ask for your name and address is, as Wig says, as a security measure for the staff.

The details never leave the store - and you are only contacted if the company are checking up on staff.

This has happened recently in one of our stores - one of the girls was using real names and addresses that had originally been written by the customer. She was doing cash refunds and using these adresses and names randomly. The store manager had to phone all the customers to clarify when they had had the refunds and then the company looked into proving that the girl had wrote the details herself on some of the slips as the handwriting was different from the original ones they could find.

I'm really not convinced its worth it!

Oh, and if you dont like giving your details it would be best to just refuse. You are able to do this - there is nothing the store can do about it. Although its unlikely giving false details could maybe get an innocent employee into trouble if they were ever 'investigated'.
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

I know of a situation where a company lost a considerable sum of money from an employee doing this.

That loss is passed onto the customers so for money savers on here (and everywhere of course) it is worth it.

If a member of staff is able to access refund slips with customers name, addresses and card details this is worrying. Whats to stop them making a note somewhere without you noticing of the last 3 digits on the rear of the card and then using your details for fraudulent orders.
