Employee payment history instead of payslips

Options
Hello

I have a question about evidence of earnings that doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere I can find online, so hopefully someone here will know.

My husband doesn't get payslips from his work- it's a very small caf! and I don't think they have the software to print proper payslips. What we have got from his boss is an "employee year to date history"- both an annual version and a weekly summary, which has different sections showing the gross earnings, tax, NI and student loan he got/paid each week of the tax year, i.e. all the information that would have been on 44 weeks of payslips, albeit arranged in a different way. As I understand it, this is the form that gets sent to HMRC to show what pay he's received. I work for an accountancy firm, and I've checked it with a couple of people there- they agree with me that these are perfectly valid records.

I've mentioned this to our mortgage advisor when I sent her copies of all the documents to do the mortgage application. And I think she panicked when I said he didn't get payslips- I've no idea if she even read past that point, let alone looked at the summaries. She's now talking about finding a bank (TSB) that will let you apply for a mortgage without payslips, if they get a reference from your employer, and not using the summaries at all. So all good, in theory.

My issue is, the summaries we've got show all the information the lender needs to confirm his earnings, and they are the official forms that get sent to HMRC, rather than being a scrappy spreadsheet or something. So why can't we use those as proof of earnings?

Sorry for the massive post, I'm just panicking a bit. Any advice from underwriters / people working at lenders would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You don't have payslips, which most lenders will require.

You have sent what you do have to your adviser, who is now looking at which lenders will accept your situation.

I don't see where the problem is?

  • TSB accepted a employers reference for my application. There are not many others who do though
