Trainline 'Cancellation Protection'

Has anyone else fallen foul of Trainline's useless 'Cancellation Protection'? Due to the nature of my work I took out 'Cancellation Protection' on a return journey to London as it said it would reimburse me if I had to cancel due to 'unforseen circumstances'. Sure enough I was called away to work due to illness and so put about making a claim on the 'Cancellation Protection' only to be told by both Trainline and Ticketplan (who administer the 'refunds') that the ticket was not eligible for refund even though I had 'Cancellation Protection'. Why does the Trainline offer 'Cancellation Protection' on tickets for which it is not eligible? Surely this is mere deception? The customer service lines for both companies were dreadful clearly scripted they are obviously used to this scenario trotting out the 'this ticket isn't eligible...blah blah. who can I complain to regarding this mis-selling of insurance?

Are you going to tell us what ticket you held or not?

Why have they refused your claim?

Have you read their Terms and Conditions?
  • Don't be fooled into buying Tramline cancellation protection like I was. It's just a rip-off to get an extra 4 pounds out of you. They don't actually return you the money if you have to cancel and allege that you haven't provided a sufficiently good reason and/or sufficient proof to be eligible for a refund. The customer service in that company is appalling and I would advise any travellers to steer well clear of Tramline. It makes me furious when companies act in such bad faith knowing full well they have no intention of providing the service they purport to offer. To me its a stupid practise because they lose a customer for a few bob more. When you look at companies like Amazon with a generous return policy, you see how important it is to create trust and goodwill if you want to create a successful business. Not the case with Tramline which deserves to go off the rails and down the tube.

Your post might have had more credibility had you got the name of the company right :rotfl:.

The main reason for avoiding Trainline is that they charge an extra fee you don't have to pay compared to buying directly from rail companies. Those extra Pounds will soon cover any loss you might have - self insure!
  • Sorry about the typo.
Unfortunately I didn't realise you could buy the tickets directly.
I won't make the same mistake again.
