Is anyone else impatient?

I've had a bit of a bad week this week in the sense that i feel desperately impatient to clear the rest of my debt.
I've been going great guns for the last year but recently took a new job hwich i love but the money is a few thousand less so am paying less each month now.
I'm living at my parents house and am getting increasingly more inpatient to clear the debt so i can start my life afresh.
I've been very down this week and in tears but dont want to talk to my folks as i feel a bit silly. paying what i'm paying now i should be cleared by early next year and can move out soon after once i have rent and bond saved.

Just wanted to know if anyone else feels like that when the end is nearby.

All I can say is cheer up because I wish I only owed as much as you and you're a lot younger than me. So just think about the song Look on The Bright Side of Life. Imagine being back in May 06 when you owed £16,569. Wouldnt you have loved to owe only £5,000. Yes, I get terribly impatient but time does roll on without any prompting so there's no point wishing your life away.

  • im very much the same (impatient) but try turning it into a postive thing use it to drive you on can you
    take a second job
dog walking cleaning ironing babysitting avon
have a good hunt for ebay items
    have a carboot
    make gifts to sell
you can really use being impatient to your advanage
    good luck
  • First of all let me say well done on just how fantastically well you have done so far! :T

Now, to answer your question. Yes I get *very* impatient too. It's always manifesting itself in quite ugly ways too. I get short tempered, moody & withdrawn. No-one can talk any sense to me and I am like it for about 2 days.

Then I turn on the TV and see some horror story or another from somewhere in the World and it makes me count my blessings and realise I don't have that much to moan about.

Sometimes when you are down you have to embrace it and allow yourself to wallow in it a bit. We're all entitled to be p'd off from time to time a good friend told me recently! And it's true.

Just try not to let it go on too long and be realistic about what you can achieve in a certain time span.

Try and enjoy the good times (i.e. when you are not frantic about debt!) and concentrate on simple things that make you happy. Incidentally I have been harping on about that myself today - the simple things that have made me happy today instead of going out shopping..!

Keep focussing on your goal of next year and believe me, it will be here sooner than you think.

I won't say "You can do this"......because you ARE doing this.

    Just keep going......you're doing FAB.

  • I feel exactly the same. I want to be debt free now, not next year or the year after.

I feel like my life is on hold in some ways because I have lots of plans and ideas that I can't carry out until I am debt free, so I get very impatient.

But as long as I keep working hard and not spending, I know I will get there eventually, and who knows what windfalls might be around the corner?

Yes, yes and yes!! When debtfreeness gets so close you start willing it away, but you do need a break sometimes, if we hadn't gone on holiday in April we could have been debtfree now but I have no regrets. It is hard trying to 'live' whilst trying to clear major debts as soon as possible and burn out is a real problem. However you have come so far and have done an amazing job, is it possible to take time out and just have a month to treat yourself a little. It won't be adding to the debt you'd just be making smaller payments for a month. WHen we came back from holiday in April I was far more proactive and enthused about debt clearing and now we are just feeling excited about the prospect of being debtfree by xmas. Good luck, you've come an awfully long way in a very short space of time.

  • I agree with themaccas - We had a bit of a break this August. We went on holiday (camping and to stay with family so still very DFW) and whilst we did not go mad with money we did little things that meant we had a great time, like hiring a wetsuit and board for DS so he could play in the sea, fish and chips one night etc. Whilst it means that the debts didn't go down by much I am now ready for a fresh push. I must admit that as I get closer to being debt free I find myself getting more impatient, mostly because I want to get onto the next project which is to overpay the mortgage. You have done amazingly well cantcope - you will get there as we all will!

Thanks for all your replies. It's nice to know i'm not the only one that feels like this sometimes. i do feel guilty treating myself now and again. I saved enough to have an amazingly cheap week away in June that was all inc so didnt need spending money but i felt guilty while i was there....

My new job pays a christmas bonus so maybe i'll tell my folks that i'd like half of it to be for me to indulge a little. Something to look forward to.

I think maybe its because once my debt is paid and i move out i still wont have any money because i'll be paying rent/bills/shopping again... Still at least i will have no debt, no loans, no overdraft or cc's.

Thanks again. I feel much better reading these replies.

  • Hi - you're doing really well! I think what you're going through at the moment is normal though - you've made such a sustained push on your debts and the end is in sight, but you've still got to keep going. Sometimes it just doesn't seem fair!

Also I don't think you're doing yourself enough credit - just think how empowered you'll be when you are debt free. Yes, we all have to pay out rent/mortgage/bills/shopping etc, but this time round you'll be in the driving seat!

    Keep up the good work!
