HMRC tax rebate

  • Hi Everyone.

I have received a HMRC letter stating I am due a tax refund. After 4 weeks no cheque in the post so I phoned HMRC and they said its been paid to this company called
"Online tax rebates ltd" website "healthcareworkertaxrebate.co.uk" based in Birmingham.

I remembered that I have filled in some uniform claim forms from this company but didn't realise what I have entered into until I read the small prints. What worries me is their very high charge of 28% plus VAT on all tax refunded.

Has anyone have any similar experiences ? And how do I get off their book ?

Any additional info and advice will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

You write to HMRC telling them that the claim co are no longer your agents. You also write to the claim co and tell them you no longer wish them to act for you.
  • Cut a long story short I applied for a Uniform Rebate thinking I’d get about £60 back. I received a letter from the HMRC saying I was entitled to £ 614 of overpaid tax. Not receiving this refund I chased it up and they told me they’d sent the whole refund to Uniform Tax Rebates. Nothing to do with a Uniform. We have been charged £230 fees of this refund. So we are totally out of pocket. How do I claim these absurd charges back.
  • Can you claim these absurd charges back ?

What does the Deed of Assignment you signed say?

As unholyangel says it really depends on what you signed.

But I'm not sure why you claim to be "totally out of pocket".

You were expecting £60. You have received £384 (£614 less £230). You appear to be £324 better off than expected.

Or is there more to this than you are telling us?

You may well have got the additional £554 anyway but if you have signed a form to say Uniform Tax Rebates can keep a proportion of any tax refund due for particular tax year(s) then HMRC have just complied with your request.
