The difference in interest can be reduced by making overpayments; without over committing yourselves from the beginning

Very good point! Out of interest (no pun intended lol) would it make more sense to do monthly overpayments... or save up on the side and chuck in a bulk amount? Just thinking that way it's making interest in my savings account meanwhile.

Overpayments: I believe it depends on when interest is calculated, if it's calculated daily or not
There is an overpayments calculator on this website to show how much you could save in interest and how the term reduces
