HRP & Child Benefit order book payee

Options
Can anyone remember who was the payee on their child benefit book back in the 1970's/80's?

The reason I'm asking is that HRP is awarded to the first named person and having asked for a pension forcast the cosequences become clear.

We asked to have the husbands name added to the order book since originally only the wife's name was on it. We needed the facility for either to collect it at the time & they didn't pay direct to a bank account then.

They added the husbands name first and so the wife loses the HRP entitlement.

They say that both names would have appeared from the onset & that the husband must have claimed child benefit to have his name first but have destroyed any paperwork.

That's not how it was for us - were we the exception?

Thanks.

I had child benefit paid from 1984. It was in my name only, not my husband's. It was never in joint names.

I agree. I had this all through the 1970s and it was always in my name.

The whole idea of this was that it was to be income for the mother, not the father. Reasoning behind it was that it was the mother who bought the childrens' shoes and all the rest of it. Around that time - early 1970s - opinion was slowly changing against the idea of the man being given tax allowances to 'keep' the wife and children, and the wife, who had to feed and clothe the children, got nothing for herself. I remember going on a Women's Lib march in London in 1973 and this was one of the issues at the time.

I have been awarded 13 years HRP which is correct.

I don't remember anyone's EVER being in joint names.

Yes, it is shown on a pension forecast, but I don't believe they are doing pension forecasts at the moment. They may tell you if you ring perhaps.
