What can I do for free in Nottingham?

Options
I've a date arranged for next weekend and as I'm not from there I don't know what I can do for free other than walking around the shops.
I'll be driving down after work on Friday or taking the train depending on costs and staying in a hotel and meeting my date Saturday morning. It's the first time we'll be meeting and as I've already spent a lot to stay in a hotel for two nights I don't really want my spending to go out of control.

I would like to do something fun, but not sure what Nottingham offers for free. Any suggestions?
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

  • Not much in Nottingham for free.

Galleries of Justice have to pay

Nottingham Castle and Brewhouse Yard Museum have to pay

City of Caves have to pay

    Nottingham Contemporary Art Gallery free

2 Old pubs well worth visiting The Trip To Jerusalem and the Malt Cross Music Hall. Spend as much or little as you like.

Lace Market area has some interesting architecture so worth a walk round, includes the Pitcher and Piano bar that is inside a converted church. Sign up for their newsletter and you will be sent an e-mail for a free drink, usually a special cocktail of some kind.

There will probably be a fair on in the market square because it will be half term, so have a wander round and soak up the atmosphere.

The tourist office is in the council house building in the square and you should be able to pick up a few ideas in there.

There is a charge to get into the castle but I don't think it is massive and the grounds are lovely and you get a great view over the city.
  • Nottingham Castle used to be cheap to get in, not now.
