I feel so guilty

I feel really worried about something that i have done and i do not know whether to own up and admit i have lied because i do not know whether i could get into trouble for it.
I have applied for a credit card and said i am working when i am not and for the total household income i have said it is much higher than it actually is.

I really needed a 0% credit card to do a balance transfer ,i knew i would not get accepted if i said i was not working so i lied .I have been accepted for the card but i have not got the card yet .Could the credit card company find out i have lied ?Once they say you have been accepted do they do further checks on you ?

I cannot believe that i have done this but i really need to get the 0% card so i felt like i had no choice.

cancel it and get advice from national debtline on why you needed a 0% credit card in the first place, good luck
  • Carlos, if you take this card, I am fairly sure you will have committed fraud. Please, for you own wellbeing, do not sign up for the card.

I may be wrong, but I'm sure there is someone else out there who may be able to clear the issue up a bit.

You are all right i am not going to have the card because i feel so bad .Would i have to ring them and tell them i no longer want card or shall i just not sign the agreement when it comes and not send it back.

I would like to apply for it again but be honest this time but i am not sure whether this would be possible now.
  • If you've already applied then the next step is to receive the card (unless you haven't filled out the application form yet). I'd suggest you ring them up and cancel. They should accept that you don't want it anymore as a reason. If they want it in writing, just send a note to that effect.
Don't own up to them that you were less than honest.!!!!

I don't think it matters whether you phone them or just don't sign the paperwork, Carlos, as you're entitled to a cooling off period. I'd just phone them and if they ask for a reason say you've changed your mind. If they persist, just say that you have to go, goodbye and put the phone down.

Thanks for the replys i applied online but it would not give a decision online it said i had to phone them .When i rang the lady said it had been accepted i am sure she said they will post me an agreement to sign.

I wish i had been honest now as i may have got the card anyway.Do you think in a couple of weeks or so i could apply again with my true earnings or would you just leave it .

I'd phone to make sure the current deal is cancelled, then leave it for a while before applying again - probably to another company - to avoid having too many searches on my credit files.

  • with your card you should have a 14 day cooling off period and the paperwork you receive should have a cancelleation notice on it for you to sign, however definately phone the company to confirm they have cancelled the card but do not tell them what you have done cos it is fraud and they would take it further. By just calling them and saying that you have changed your mind - they will not look into it further. Hope this helps x

  • You could apply for a different card; I wouldn't apply for the same one again. But I would leave it a few months. If you do too many applications at the same time they think you are desperate and refuse you.

You have made the right decision as it would have been fraud. Well done!
