HSBC Default

Hi guys
Not sure if this is the right place to be posting.
I opened up an HSBC bank account in 2008, it was one that came with benefits at a charge of £15 a month, as long as i paid in my salary of at least £1000 a month.
I stopped using this account in 2014, i did call and speak to someone and told them that i will no longer be using the account and he advised that as i would no longer hit the requirement of having the account i would no longer be charged.
Now , i am not an angel when it comes to finances, i am not very organised, but i have recently be trying as i am hoping to get a mortgage next year.
I received a letter saying my account has closed and that i needed to repay the outstanding balance, so i called and paid it off but they advised that a default has been put on my account but they will say that it has been settled in full.
Is there anything i can do to get this default removed. I know i should have sorted this sooner, but as it was such a small amount, i just kept forgetting and i was helping looking after my step-father who was dying of cancer, whilst also trying to plan a wedding. I knew that it was because of the charges, and i knew i needed to fight the case with them that i should not have been charged them, but i just didnt have the time.
Also, I have just noticed that the account i had, no longer has a monthly charge.

Hi,
Unfortunately the bank have to provide an accurate record of your financial conduct to the credit reference agency's, so if the account defaulted, then the record will reflect that.
You can still make a formal written complaint about the charges, and ask them to remove the default if found in your favour, but that's at the banks discretion.
I beleive you can reclaim banking fees now, make that a part of your complaint also :

fight the default if you don't think it was fair - I got mine cancelled because they were so inaccurate with the information on there and when I complained they sorted it. I'd try and complain
