 i really could do with some advise on what to do with my situation.
i have gathered debts up for the last few years, some i have run up myself and others were as i was through my ex partner, where i was stupid and got him some credit on a number things, only for me to be left with the bill.
i have been intouch with the national debt line about six months ago who suggested contacting all my creditors to offer token payments, which i did including a means sheet. some of the creditors (not many) accepted my offers and have been pay off in total, but the others are not having any of it, and are saying that they won't accept my offers and expect me to pay an weekly amount almost triple the amount i offered.
i don't know what to do now, as i get bonbarded with letters everyday.
ideally all my debts would have been paid off in 2009 due to an increase of income in sept, but they are not willing to wait until sept. has anyone any ideas of the way forward?
another thing i was wondering is if something was being bought on hp, with two applicants on the account are they both jointly responsible for paying that account, or is it just the first applicant that is held responsile for the debt?
i'm very grateful for any advise offer. thank you.

Creditors can be a pain, but there are ways of dealing with them. We had a few that got quite stroppy about how much we could pay - in the end i refused to talk to them and wrote instead, even to the ones who insisted that they used call centres only. When we enclosed the amount we said we could afford it was never returned! At the end of the day if you have been to a proper help line and can show creditors a means sheet they know that even if they took you to court they would end up with getting no more than they get now. More importantly, can you get any interest being charged stopped? This can make a huge difference to the debt.
As for the HP, usually if there are joint signatures then it's a case of jointly and severally liable, so they can chase either/both for the money, but as always it depends on the contract terms which you need to check.0
