Tracing my old Debts...

Hi,

Some years ago I was rather stupid with money, I started defaulting on my loan, before completely ignoring it and eventually left the country.

I'm much more mature, in a much better financial position now and I want to rectify it. I've started by signing up to Experian and I've viewed my Credit Report tonight. There's a couple of things with O2 and British Gas that aren't correct which I will call them about.

However, the loan and the credit card that I had with a major bank which I defaulted on over six years ago isn't on there.

Does anyone know why that might be? Has anyone had a similar situation?

Thanks

Ian

    Hi beans,

Old credit entries only stay on your file for 6 years from default date, have you checked all three CRA's ?

  • Hi Sourcrates,

    Thanks for the reply.

I've checked Experian only. I'm going to check Equifax now. What is the third one?

If entries only stay on your file for 6 years would something like the default on a loan affect a request for mortgage in 3-4 years? Providing I've worked to improve my credit rating?

    Thanks

    Ian
  • I've checked it on Equifax and the only problem on there is the fact it states I'm not on the Electoral Role. However, I am, so I need to ring both Experian and Equifax about that.

Equifax won't allow me to add some additional addresses though, that could be having an impact.

  • Thanks again.

I can't get on Noddle, it says it can't verify me. My card is quite new and I've only lived here a year...

It took me the best part of 6 months to get on Noddle. When I signed up they fed me some automated response about not being able to access all of the details they needed to compile my credit report. 6-7 months later I got an email telling me that my account was ready. It's been fine since then, and in fact was the one I spotted HSBC putting a debt management marker on about 2 months after I had come out of DMP. Safe to say by the next update, that had been removed!
