Tesco: Knowing when offers are in store?
Is there a way of knowing what Tesco offers are available in stores?
I'm training for the London Marathon, and drink Lucozade sport after my long runs. Knowing I'll be drinking a fair amount of it over the next few months I wanted to get a good deal on it.
I went to MySupermarket and saw that it's on offer at Tesco as a 4 pack for £1.75.
I popped in to Tesco Express on the way home, and it's at the normal price. I went a bit out of my way to a Tesco Metro, and similarly it was also the normal price.
I realise that Express/Metros are likely to be more expensive, so not entirely surprised that they aren't running the promotion.
I can get to a full size Tesco on my journey home, but adds a small bit of time. I'd hate to do it, to find out that this is an 'online/delivery only' deal.
On Tesco's website it states:
Offer valid for delivery from 3/2/2016 until 23/2/2016

I always thought Lucozade Sport should be drunk while running, to give energy. Afterwards I would have thought a protein drink would be more effective to aid recovery.
As others have said the only way to know would be to phone Tesco and even then I wouldn't always trust their reply. But generally I don't think they do online only offers, but sometimes Express/Metro stores don't have the offers. You could have tried taking the pack to the till at the Metro store and scanning it to check the price in case they had just not changed the SEL.0 -
You say you went into Tesco Express - these don't usually/often have the offer prices, or stock. Mysupermarket is really for Tesco Proper Supermarkets.
It can also be hit/miss if any store has stock - I know I've gone out of my way to go to specific stores in the past for things, only to find the shelves bare ... although asking a shelf stacker to check if they've any out the back can yield results 50% of the time (if you've the cheek to ask them).
If you need so much your best bet's probably to order a lot of it, with home delivery.0 -
I know you have to factor in postage - but Approved food are doing a deal today: 8 bottles of 500ml for £1 ( max 24 bottles per purchase ) , + other offers

I've often found offers in my Tesco Extra which do match up with the offers in larger Tescos (not all offers but some) but they aren't marked. I don't think this is so much the fault of the staff than some offers slip through and available without the stores being updated but I agree not all offers are. It is worth trying though.
Also; check things like the size and variety. I know it sounds pretty obvious but for example Tesco have had an offer with 2x 7up Free bottles for £1.50 or 93p each. This offer was only on the 600mls bottles which looked pretty similar to the 500mls bottles and were often stored right next to them. I think the price has slightly changed now and the 600mls bottles now are 99p but on many stores the offers were not marked. It would go through the till and the only real way was to check myself as the staff were unaware when I asked that the offer was on.
Also- to add my 2p on the Lucozade drink. OP, if this is the reward for your run and motivates you; keep doing it. However, if you were looking to make your own electrolyte drink (which is what Lucozade is designed for doing) you can do this either by buying a block of tablets from sports shops or running shops to drop in to plain water.
Or you can make an even cheaper version by making up a drink of water and orange juice (has to be orange; eg apple or a smoothie or pineapple wont work the same way) and mixing this with water 50/50. Then add a pinch (and literally a pinch, not a spoonful!) to your 300mls. For every 1 hour you run a general rule of thumb is 1 litre of fluids if you are sweating...etc.
An even cheaper drink (but which might not taste as fantastic) is plain water and a 1 teaspoon and 1 pinch of salt. If you want to add a few mls of lemon juice to add a bit of taste but I know some that will have a cooled down green tea. However, remember there is caffeine in green tea if you run in the evenings.
If you run for over an hour or feel very dizzy after running, try to have a chocolate milkshake (assuming your not trying to lose weight!) coconut water or flat coke (full sugar) or a banana as these can help but if it's happening repeatedly it could be worth looking at how you are eating/drinking before your run or checking things with a medic so you don't end up overlooking a bigger underlying problem.0
