Hi,
My mum has recently found her engagement ring.
Where is the best place to take a ring with diamonds and other stones in it please?
Many thanks
Darren

DarrenProbably a jeweller. Cash-for-gold places will only be interested in the metal not the gems and won't want to pay for the artistry of the item - it'll be going for melt.
I know people in the trade and I fear you may be disappointed unless the diamond(s) are at least one carat. Cubic zirconia virtually killed the market for smaller diamonds and they are nigh-worthless. I have seen jewellers trying to flog small diamonds among themselves for £2-£10 a piece and no one in the trade wants them as the public doesn't want them.
Even if the diamond is about 1 carat +, the price a jeweller gives will depend on the quality of the gem, and many diamond rings which weren't hideously-expensive when bought new contain diamonds of relatively low quality, with flaws in the stone, or poor colour. HTH.
As always, when selling, obtain several quotes, ideally on the same day. Quotes will vary day on day as the gold price is moving constantly.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Sorry to hijack but I have an old engagement ring (my mothers) with a very tiny diamond in it. It is of no sentimental value and is just gathering dust as I have no idea what to do with it!!!
Any ideas???0 -
Well the offer made was purely based on weight, they are taking the small stones at the same value as gold.
Disappointed doesn't begin to describe how my mum feels.0 -
best really taking it to either a market stall, or a smalll independant jeweller who resells this sort of thing.
I had a diamond ring not too long ago which was bought for about £300, I was offered £30 for the scrap gold value, but £100 from a market stall.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
