Dyeing bleached blonde hair back to dark brown

So I recently got my hair bleached blonde after having some blonde highlights and I feel like it does nothing for me and makes my bad skin more noticeable and tbh, it just isn't 'me' but I'm glad I tried it, had to at some point! I know it seems that you would just shove a brown dye over your hair and that would be that but I know when you bleach your hair you strip always its pigment so you have to add that back in when going darker.
I have a rough idea what I am doing today. I know I will need a red semi permanent dye to begin with, will Crazy Colour do? I know it will be a very vibrant shade but will that act OK as a pre pigment? I have brown box dye to use afterwards too. Its Superdrugs own chestnut brown and this is semi permanent too. I've read horror stories about peoples hair turning green and all that jazz so I'm a bit nervous! Hoping to be back to brunette by the end of the day, fingers crossed.
If anyone has any experience going back to dark after bleaching please let me know!

Hi, I'm new here and still finding my way around. Browsing through the health & beauty section and stumbled across your post.
I bleached my fringe/front section of hair to dye it purple this time last year. Unfortunately the purple was only semi permanent(thanks Schwarzkopf!) and I am naturally very dark, literally only a couple shades lighter than black so you can imagine the contrast when the purple washed out! :rotfl:
I then landed the job I have now, thought to myself that I'll meet lots of new people and make lots of new friends in a location where I've never had a job before so I had to do something but couldn't afford a hairdresser. I bought a box of black dye, slapped it on, waited the time and washed it off. A year later obviously my hair has grown but you wouldn't know I went through all that. The only giveaway(and even this would only be to the trained eye) is the damage at the ends of my hair. But I'm currently in the process of trimming it every now and then(I trim the very ends myself, anything more then I will go to a hairdresser) and using a colour stripper shampoo on the ends(while using a proper shampoo for my hair type on the roots). The colour stripper shampoo is doing absolutely nothing but one can hope eh?
As for the trimming, I know I'm slowly over time cutting off all that damage from the bleach and the dyed hair itself and hopefully soon I'll have hair like I did 10 or so years ago again0 -
Go to a hairdresser. They will need to strip off all the bleach before applying a permanent dye. Doing it yourself is a money saving step too far.
To edit: Actually, why are we replying to a post over two months old????0 -
As I said, new here and still finding my way round.
My bad :rotfl:0 -
OP is right in that they would need to put red on it first. If you put a brown dye directly onto blonde hair it goes a khaki green colour.0

Years ago i tried going from blonde to my natural dark brown hair colour and my hair went a horrible shade of khaki green.
If your going to do it yourself, do a test piece first. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
