Holland and barret's website have tons of natural and crueltry free, vegan cosmetics and creams. Some of them are way cheaper than many high street brands and the likes of Clinique, Clarins etc...

Sukin is another brand of cruelty free, I use their moisturiser and I love it!

    Good prices as well
  • I use greenscents for cleaning and suneeta cosmetics, both reasonably priced.
I go for chemical free, as pointless not being tested on animals when chemicals affect their environment.

Cosmetic and makeup I swear by Lush, also very often you can get Original Source shower gels and Handwashes in the 99p Store or Pound Shop.

In terms of eco/cruelty free household stuff I go with ecover and stock up when it's on offer. Co-op often put the ecover washing up liquid on offer and it lasts ages.

Other options would be to hunt our some recipes of things you can make up yourself, buy lots of lemon juice and bicarb of soda :)

I always wonder how you can really tell when it comes to this. As don't some start out this way and then switch, like Avon?

Lush is not to be fully trusted either. they're not fully natural.
  • If a product is endorsed by the Vegan society, then it will not contain any animal product at all. So, no lanolin/beeswax/honey/carmine/tallow etc. They are anti-vivisection. So, no product bearing the Vegan Society logo will have been tested on animals.

There are many small producers in this country making natural products, for instance The Blue Lemon http://www.thebluelemon.co.uk/pages/about-us Lovely stuff!

You can also buy your own organic, ethically produced oils and raw ingredients and make your own skin/bath care products. Companies like http://www.bath-bomb.com/pages/index.html make it very easy to create your own creams, lotions and potions. But not for resale, just for personal use.

When we're talking about 'ethical' or 'natural' or even 'cruelty free' everyone's benchmark is slightly different. For instance, I won't buy from companies who are owned by a parent company that still conducts animal testing. Or sells products in China where animal testing is compulsory. Or buy from Boots for instance, as their core pharmaceutical business still tests on animals.

Cleaning & laundry products I buy from M&S or the Co-Op (own brands only) also Astonish. Ecover I stopped buying some years ago as they test product toxicity on water fleas. I might not think they're very cuddly a water flea is still a living creature.
  • Wow thanks for all the responses it's brilliant. I do check on Peta but there is a lot to go through and not everything is listed especially smaller companies :)
  • I am so addicted to beauty products, I have tried everything from Liz Earle to Neil's Yard. However they all use emulsifiers. Far as my understanding of emulsifiers is something like washing up liquid, as it binds water and oil together for it to work! Now I have found a company that is not only cruelty free but totally natural and organic for a fraction of the price of these brands I have been supporting for the last 11 years. Try them out. they are a small market stall hand making their products with a web site for those who are unable to visit. They are called Suneeta Cosmetics. I live in West London so it is on my door step (Portobello road market notting hill), but they also trade on Brick lane (east london). Have a look at their site and definitely try the cleansing balm and night oil.
I cannot stop promoting their products as their prices start from £1 sample pots.
