Cleaning Ceramic Hob

  • I've looked at the stain a bit more today - I did try and upload the photo but as a new user I'm not allowed to!

I have ordered Bar Keepers friend as a last resort. When I look at the mark it kind of looks smudged where the circle line normally goes.

Am I right in saying there's no way you can rub those lines off?

Sad to say that; Yes, you can rub those lines off. I know because I have done it by over vigourous cleaning of a Belling ceramic hob. I had a burnt in stain caused when a pan containing a boiling ham spilled over and was not immediately wiped up. The salty water dried and burned and almost welded itself into the ceramic hob. I'm sure that the subsequent damage was my fault;- the result of a lack of patience and the vigourous scrubbing combined with the scouring corrosiveness of the salt did remove the lines on the hob.

I haven't been vigorous with it at all. I can see the light grey lines but they seem to be under a black mark. I'll use bark keepers friend and if no luck I'll have to just leave it at that.
  • I use Easy-do hob powder with a damp piece of kitchen roll then wipe over with a damp cloth. You can then buff the hob with a tea towel. I also use Hob Brite to clean the hob as well. I use the Easy-do when there is residue that has burnt on and Hob Brite for the rest of the time. I usually clean it after I use it so that it isn't a mamouth task.

I'm on my second hob now. It looks like new every time I clean it. My last hob looked like new when it packed up!

Please don't scream at what I have to say about cleaning ceramic hobs!

I have an Ariston ceramic hob and it's there since.... wait for it 1996 OMG.

I clean it with a brillo pad. YES it works on mine. No burnt bits or stains ever remain. Honestly. I put some warm water on the hob then work the pad round and round, and it is the best thing ever. Dry off with paper towels, sparkling. No scratches I promise, just a gleaming hob!

Brillo pads are fantastic for cleaning shower screens too. Try it, it's really amazing.

I tried everything on the hob and the shower screens, and now a little brillo works wonders.

If you are a bit scared, try a little corner of your hob or shower screen. I guarantee it works.

Yesterday I cleaned my hob with a Brillo pad after reading your post a while ago, it's worked brilliantly, thank you. :T

I use one of those magic erasers on mine (poundshop ones though, not jml!) and find they do a brilliant job. Might also be worth a try.
