Time question

A quick question for those in the know?
How long does it take roughly from doing full application to move in date? Or rather how quickly can this be done? (Given DIP already obtained I just mean from full application) I know it will vary just a rough idea.
Thanks.

    Thanks.

I'd also like to know this (without jinxing our application). We're working on it being 6 weeks but guess it could be a little faster if really needs be. 4 weeks for searches and contracts to be drawn to exchange, and then 2 weeks to complete.

Anywhere between a couple of months to a year, way up to never because it all falls through.
Or in other words, impossible to know.

I have done 28 days from application to picking up the keys. Typically though I would say 6-8 weeks but it depends on the lender, solicitor and the rest of the chain if there is one.

I think 6 weeks is a little optimistic, I've had experience of buying/selling twice in the last few years and both have taken 8 weeks or more. 6 could be done if all parties pulled their fingers out but in reality, that doesn't happen.

Two weeks to get from mortgage application to mortgage offer then how long is the piece of string which is the legal work of you and everyone else in the chain.

Completion is a compromise between all the parties in the chain, so it isn't necessarily about who wants fastest. If fastest doesn't suit someone, it won't happen.

  • Ok maybe I should have worded the question 'how far away would you make the entry date on the offer' I've bought and sold twice before I know things can fall through etc just haven't done it recently so wondered what the thinking was.
    Thanks for everyone's replies.

Offers are typically valid for 6 months as standard.

    Is this a Scottish purchase?

If so, you need to talk to your solicitor about your entry date.

We do not have this in England & Wales.
