Previous employer witholding original certificates

It's a big assumption that the employer kept the originals.
Assuming a high staff turnover they may have simply scanned the certificates and disposed of the originals. They wouldn't have a need for the actual certificates so why bother storing them ?

(It isn't clear if the OP's friend has actually gone back to them and asked for the originals after receiving the photocopies however )

I've actually sent a link to this thread to my friend.

She phoned asking for her certificates and was told to collect them this morning. She just took the envelope she was given. As I said, she is a trustworthy person and doesn't like to argue.

She actually told my wife they were copies.

She was going to phone today to ask foer the originals.
