hi all
do you have to disclose that you are bankrupt at a job interview.
i suppose that if you get the job, then the employer finds out that you did not tell them that you are bankrupt, then they could sack you.

It would depend on what the job is I guess... I don't think they would sack you if they found out, unless of course the job was in a bank!

Only if you are applying for a job in financial services, as an accountant or another regulated profession.
Otherwise it is none of their business and no grounds for refusing you a job or sacking you.
Good luck.

Hi Miss M - I've had a few interviews, since being declared bankrupt. The subject of my bankruptcy has only come up once.
Mind you I'm still looking.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

If they ask then you have to tell them. As for being sacked that depends on the employer.Barclaycard 3800

Can someone set the record straight for the OP please??? I believe what Rafter has written is correct. The last time I heard the only checks an employer might carry out is possible a CRB, but since this relates to CRIMINAL records then BR is not disclosed there.
BH can I ask where you got your information from please??Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0 -
When I was at the CAB two weeks ago for my debt advice and filling in the bankruptcy papers, I was told that Bankruptcy would only affect any job I applied for where money is being handled. Shop etc, until the bankruptcy is finished (or whatever it is called). Any other job I applied for, it wouldn't or shouldn't be asked if I was or not.Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

BRs are required to disclose that they're BR if asked, & if they're undischarged the restrictions given on the Insolvency Service site here also apply. I've not heard of anyone being sacked for being BR - if you're in a job where you're handling money (either physically or on paper), you may find your access to certain departments/files restricted, & you may find your career choices affected (some people doing accountancy have said they've not been able to do certain work/exams), but I've not heard of a single person actually losing their job purely because they're BR.
If you applied for a job in a bank & didn't tell them you were BR when you applied, I think if they sacked you it would be because you'd broken your Terms & Conditions by not declaring it on the form, not because you're BR. If you went BR after getting the job, I doubt they'd sack you, but your access to certain banking administration would be likely to be affected, & redeployment to another section might be an option discussed.
I think the chances of anyone being sacked specifically because they're BR are extremely remote. As I say, I've never heard of it, & it's something I'd therefore advise anyone not to worry about. Provided you adhere to the terms of your contract of employment, & declare your BR status if asked, you have no need to worry about losing your job. If you are employed now, there's no need to worry about ending up unemployed or unemployable just because you're BR. And don't forget, jobs that are likely to be ones where declaration of BR status would be required are also likely to have professional organisations to represent staff (a union, federation or society of some kind), so you are free to contact them for advice & assistance in confidence at any time if you want to.
