Curling/Waving my own hair - how?

the ones I linked above really do work - our local hairdresser uses them tooJust_a_Girl wrote: »I use either a thick barrel curling wand or the Babyliss Wave Envy, which gives mermaid hair - both look lovely. The curls from the curling wand doesn't seem to last as long though.
I can never get my hair to look as good curled with straighteners as the salon can.

I also have fine hair and I use my ghds to curl mine. For nights out I use heated rollers(these needs to be in for a couple of hours on my fine hair).0

I have waist length hair & plait it when wet. It makes for very natural looking waves. My hair is in very good condition & I'm in my 50's & have never used electric rollers, or even a hair dryer for decades.0

Hello ladies! Personally I wave my hair with BaByliss Thermo Ceramic heated hair rollers regularly. Without waving my hair looks aweful, no volume at all. These rollers help me achieve a good result, something like this

I seconded this - I plait my hair when wet and it comes out in really natural waves. If I want looser waves I do 2 plaits and start them at about my ear. If I want the waves tighter, and bigger hair, I do 3 or 4 french plaits from the top of my head.0 -
I went back to using little clips that I bought cheaply on eBay. They're sort of like bulldog clips but with teeth. On half dry hair, I take a strand of hair, wrap it around my finger and scrunch it up then clip it to my scalp. I do this in a random way all over my head. It doesn't take very long to do. Then as your hair dries naturally, you can get on with makeup etc. If you're in a hurry, a blast from the hairdryer will speed things up.
Take the clips out when hair is dry and run your fingers through to break up the spirals. I usually work a blob of serum through to give shine and define the shape. If it's too wavy for you, running damp hand through your hair will loosen the curls.
I find this works very well for a night out and my hair is still wavy the next day.0 -
Depends on how often you intend to do it as infrequent use of straighteners won't make a difference.
I was always a big fan of GHDs but I was forever sending them back after around a year for being faulty. After the last pair I vowed never again and have bought a pair of Donna Bella straighteners and they are so much better, they hold the straight hair or curl for a lot longer. I have thick, long hair and so can get away with washing it about once every six days, which means I use the straighteners once every six days and after it's dry it takes no longer than 20 minutes. My debt free diary
