I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place. I have a cast iron pan which is starting to stick so I was going to season it but can't remember how long it needs to be in the oven or what temperature to use. Would be grateful for any suggestions.
Many thanks

Hi Aldeny,
Put a layer of salt in your pan and either stick it in the oven while you are cooking something else or heat for about half an hour on hob...leave to cool and wipe out with kitchen paper. You are not meant to wash these pans but I have to admit that I do...wouldn't use any other kind although it is becoming rather more expensive to lay your hands on them now

I know an ordinary pan can be seasoned by putting household salt in it and heating it to as high a temperature as possible for five minutes or so.
Don't know if it would work with cast iron but I think is must be worth a try.0 -
Thanks so much for your replies. I didn't know you could use salt, I am sure I used oil first time around. I will definately give both your suggestions a try. I also wash my pans meanmarie. I know your not supposed to but wiping them out afer making something like a curry doesn't seem very hygenic.

I've always used oil as well - Inormally wash out with hot water (no detergent) then back on the hob for a couple of mins and rub a bit of oil round.0
