Struggling to pay for our booked wedding

Hi.

So we have a wedding booked for June this year in Greece. Its been booked for several years and our budget wedding was manageable until just before Xmas when my htb lost his job. We have to pay off the remaining £900 of our holiday before the end of Feb or were screwed. Hes been trying to get a job and I'm working overtime in a decent job so all our current rent/commitments are paid and normally we can manage on my wage. I'm currently selling possessions on ebay but I don't have many high value items. Can anyone think of any other suggestions to raise funds?

Could your OH take on a bar job while he looks for other work? Or something similar to pay the money off the wedding. He could try doing odd jobs for people if he knows what he is doing, or even signing on with an agency until he gets a permanent job x
  • He's already trying all that. Been signed with agencies since before Xmas, had one days work. Will just have to hope something comes up in the next week. We have got offers of money to help pay for the actual wedding but if we cant get there its no good. I may resort to selling my clothes

Get himself into all the local pubs/hotels/canteens and offer himself up as a kitchen porter. He will have all the work he wants within a week- hard, hot and not particularly nice work but plenty of it.
  • Problem with bar work is that he has run pubs/bars and has a personal licence ect so people wont hire him for stuff like that because he has too much experience. Wheres the best place for pawing jewellery? And how long do they hang on to it for?

    Agencies won't care
The places he's working for won't even know...unless he tells them.
So many places are closing down like pubs that there are lots of people in hospitality working jobs below their experience.

Most people who've worked in hospitality stay in touch even if it's loose touch surely he must know someone who can offer him a few shifts . Get him onto facebook to see what might be out there.... A time like this is no time for pride. He needs work and now . He can still apply for manager's jobs in his spare time.

I once lost a managerial job in hospitality- one of my staff shortly after started work as a manager for another company. She found me shifts......the fact we knew we worked well together and she knew I knew what I was doing got me the job (my interview was a text- "want to do a shift tomorrow ?" by the time I met the boss I'd already worked two shifts and he was eager to give me as many as I wanted). It wasn't what I wanted but it paid the bills until I found something better. It was actually quite liberating not to be stuck with all the manager stuff and just go in work my shift without all the extra stress !

With only three weeks to go it would seem that your only option would be to borrow the money from someone or somewhere and pay it back in the next few months. If you had longer I would suggest matched betting.
  • Ive had a look at matches betting. It confuses me a tad. Lol. My step dad has decided to give me some money which I feel guilty about but at least we can get it paid and ill just sneak the money back to him over time. Thanks for all your help.
