TFL refund question

I had a hospital appointment last week so got the bus to my local tube station and waited for the overground. There was apparently some problem with the trains due to a fire so my train was cancelled. I wasn't sure what to do so got on the next underground train to see if I could still reach the hospital. When I check the map whilst on the train, it was obvious it would take ages. I rang the hospital who said to rearrange the appointment rather than arrive late so I got off the train and went back home.

I had a totally wasted journey but TFL are only willing to refund the train part of the journey and not the bus ride to and from the station. That doesn't seem right to me since my whole journey didn't happen due to their problem!

Can I insist on a refund? Does anyone please know my legal rights? It's only £3 but it's the principle!

the only problem was the train. so that's what they're refunding.

the bus and tube were working fine and you used them. the fact the hospital later cancelled mid-journey is neither TFLs care or problem.
  • TFL don't do refunds.... well only kicking and screaming.

You're asking if you can be refunded for an unspecified delay from a mystery location (which we only know it is served by Underground & Overground), to another mystery location (which we only know is near a hospital)?

    I do not know.

However we may be able to give it a go, if you provide details of your planned vs actual itinerary.

However it appears they are refunding the train journey, and I don't see how you can claim a refund for the bus.

Yep, I think the best you can get is a refund for the part of the journey that should be on the Overground.

The bus service was working as expected (it got you to the station) so no refund is due on the bus journey.
