Large packs of Vegetable Oxo cubes

I make lots of vegetable soup and veggie dishes requiring vegetable Oxo cubes. I prefer the crumbly texture of the Oxo cubes and not the blocky stock tablets.

But when I visit the cheap shops, B&M, Farmfoods, Poundstretcher etc and the largest box is (if they actually sell it) is 12 cubes. Yet Beef and Chicken cubes come in larger quantities, even seen a tub with 60 cubes.

Does anyone know where I can buy larger quantities of Veg Oxo cubes or tell me alternative crumbly cubes?

I can't go to Costco, Makro etc.

Tesco and Morrisons sell packs of 24 but, depending on offers, these can work out more expensive than the best prices for packs of 12.

Amazon is advertising 12 packs of 12 for £11.76 (currently out of stock) but you have to pay for delivery unless spending £20. Even without the delivery charge this is little better than £1 each from ASDA.

Tubs of 60 vegetable cubes exist. This site prices them at £9.99. 60 cubes = 5 packs of 12 cubes so equivalent to paying c £2 per box of 12 which is twice the ASDA price.

According to the box, it takes 5 oxo cubes to make a litre of stock, so for £9.99 you're only getting 12 litres of stock, at almost £1 a litre.

I buy 1kg tubs of bouillon powder (Amazon) costing £9.50 and this makes 50 litres of stock, so 20p a litre.

Even if you buy the small 150g tubs in the supermarket, this still makes 7.5 litres for £2, so 25p a litre, a quarter of the price of using oxo cubes.

I can understand not liking the block stoock tablets, but why not try the "gel" stock pots a go? They dissolve fast and the finished product is better than crumbly stock cubes.

  • Another vote from me for Bouillon. I buy the less salt Marigold one, from Amazon. You can decide how much to use in your soups and stews, depending on personal taste.

I have previously bought the tub of 60 from a Tesco store but not sure if they still sell them.

Yes last year they had some big pots of vegetable cubes but seemed unable to sell them, and I snaffled two tubs for silly money greatly reduced and am just using the last of them up now

30P for 10 pack from Tesco Value Range. Not bad actually. A Litre of Veg stock for 15P.

No idea if it is any good, but on the face of it, red hot deal.
