Out of that list, I would choose Coast, they have a great range at the moment. Always worry that someone else will turn up in the same Monsoon dress, East seems a bit hippy (as in folk songs rather than fattening!), Hobbs I've never been able to find anything.

How about a lesser known make from the department stores. I love the name Damsel in a Dress john Lewis have a whole category of wedding guest dresses

thanks for this - this is actually very helpful - as you can tell I am clueless.

as you say there is always the fear of someone turning up in the same dress

my natural style is a bit hippy, a bit boho so when I am dressed smart I feel like a kid playing dress with your mums wardrobe :D

the good news is that we now have a John Lewis at Grand central attached to Birmingham New Street station so its very easy for me to get to :j - I shall probably be in and out of the place numerous times over the next few months.

as well as wedding dresses I am always looking for cruise dresses :D

what is the view on this - I like the big print but don't really like cowl necks

I like phase eight. It looks lovely. Not sure how tall you are, but that one is knee length. Cowl necks can work. Try it you can always return. Check on vouchercodes if there are codes for phase eight.

also looking on the John Lewis website I've found you can book a stylist for 2 hours and its complimentary

would I need the 2 hour one or the 1 hour one I wonder.

    - has anyone done this before? I am just very worried about being pressurised into buying things
Or the stylist being a size 8 girl who would bring me dozens of very unsuitable things to try on ...

so see if I can get it from Phase 8 direct through TCB rather than through John Lewis?

my neck is a starting to look a bit crepey so I tend to wear scarves these days to disguise the bit under my chins :D

my height is another issue - technically I am 5 foot 4 but actually I think I am 5 foot 3 and a half so slightly too tall for petite ranges.
and yes it would have to be knee length as dresses ride up when you sit down and flashing thigh is not very seemly :rotfl:
