That sounds so unfair TryHarder- leaving you on a higher rate as you can’t pass the affordability to get a lower rate (where you would pay less!). :mad:First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!0 -
I know ,it makes no sense does it ? Then they send us letters saying if you are struggling to pay your mortgage call us and we will help you ,its crazy isnt it ,luckily we can afford it at the moment but if interest rates do increase dramatically then we will be in big trouble.0

Boo, can you go swimming in the evenings at all? A lot of swimming is gaining confidence in the water so maybe you and GF can just get used to it at your own pace?
The affordability tests are a joke. Our first choice mortgage would only lend us 260k (we needed to 264k) on the basis of affordability. That mortgage would have been £500/month less than we were paying in rent at the time. But naturally, entirely out of our budget. Grrrr! We are down to 1.24% now though.0 -
Everything crossed for you that interest rates remain low Try Harder x
Yesterday was a brighter day- got a bit of work done, went to the gym & to yoga. We made a lovely spicy cod taco recipe with mango chilli salsa for dinner too which was superb. Cod was YS to £3 a week ago so defrosted it and then used up a rather sad looking mango from the fridge (recipe was pineapple but used what we had in).
Working from home today, planning the gym tonight but we might be viewing a house for family so will switch it around if need be.
£2.98 tilly tidy made yesterday bringing our Feb total to £257.51. Bringing YTD to £674.93 of £3000 target
Hoping to go to the pool over the next few days to sign gf up for the swimming lessons starting next week so Friday will be swim day for us for the next few months.
Ive also been looking up climbing walls as I have always fancied trying it- chatted with gf and she is really up for trying it too. There are quite a few near us to try and several do initial coach led sessions until you feel competent/signed off as competent. We have agreed to book it in for after friends wedding early March, which will be around pay day too which is goodFirst home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).

For kayaking water confidence is more important than swimming ability as you will be given a buoyancy aid so the important thing is you don't panic if you do tip over. Often clubs or companies will want to see that you can fall out of the kayak and wait to be rescued rather than swim yourself anywhere before you do anything else! If they don't provide the clothes don't wear lace up shoes if you can avoid it as they can be prone to catching round things and no jeans! Go for warm synthetics that dry faster if you do get wet
Otherwise enjoy
Still - swimming is an excellent skill to have and loads of fun to do as well as burning tons of calories.
Well done on the new mortgage rate, mine finally drops next month after being told a few time the last couple of years that I 'couldn't afford' the lower rate. Madness...0 -

Hi, I thought they had to allow you to switch to another deal with them? We had the same problem with Chelsea-couldn't change the mortgage in any way, i.e. Extend the term, change to repayment from IO etc. As we didn't pass affordability  but we could change rate when our tie in ended?MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Lovely Saturday- first thing had a hot yoga session (Fitbit said it burnt 240 cals
) which left me feeling all energised and bright. Then popped to Argos to collect a shark steam mop for our kitchen floor. We!!!8217;ve been debating it since we moved in and have finally read lots of reviews and taken the plunge!
Popped to Lidl for our weekly shop- chicken, avocado, peppers, courgettes, etc all bought for the week and only spent £19.45. Nicely under the weeks budget which is good as we have a habit of little top ups mid week of a few quid at our local Tesco. 55p promptly overpaid this afternoon tooFirst home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).

Went for a nice run this late afternoon- managed a 5km outdoor run in 30mins which I am pretty pleased with.
We have also tried using that special grout cleaner for the floor grout in the kitchen that looks mucky but it has not done all that much annoyingly- maybe its a build up type product, as in it will take a few attempts...
Cornish sardines (from Lidl/aldi- I forget which) for dinner tonight. We had them at Rick Steins last year and loved them but not sure how to eat them at home so ta an experiment. Will serve with sweet potato wedges, some nice spinach, sweetcorn and leftover mango salsa. Looking forward to dinner tonight!
In more exciting news we both received our passports back tonight- delivery driver dropped them off- it only took five days as we did them Monday lunchtime at the post-office. I’m pretty impressed!
And even more exciting news, had the confirmation letter from clydesdale and the new rate of 1.64% has been applied from 19th February meaning our interest for February will be much lower than I’ve planned for. Woop!!

So very pleased at this. Need to check if our payments are made by standing order or by DD- if it is a standing order they have advised to adjust the payment but we may keep it the same, it’ll just make my accounts S/S a little messier but could work. Off to check that now and watch Kong-Skull Island on sky moviesFirst home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
