Is it possible to Low Carb as a Vegetarian?

I keep toying with the idea of trying out a low carb diet diet, but when i look for recipes they all seem to be full of meat and eggs, or milk and cheese.
Do any vegetarians here Low Carb?
I recently stopped eating a vegan diet, and the dairy has given me awful mucus, so i want to keep dairy to a minimum, i dont like eggs anyway, so wouldn't want a egg heavy diet (i have always hated eggs).
So, is it possible to Low Carb as a Vegetarian, without recipes full of dairy?

I've just posted about this on the "wheat" thread. TBH I would think it would be almost impossible. You would be ruling out most proteins, other than soya or tofu.
I think it would be too restrictive and I dont you would be able to get sufficient nutrients. I think there would be a high probability of malnutrition.0 -

Well, considering i dont want to overdose on soy products, or live off just veggies, and beans make me bloat..maybe it's not a great idea!
I think i could maybe just cut out bread as a start and see how that makes me feel. You've posted at a time when most are at work, to paraphrase Yoda " patience you must have O.P"0 -
I'm vegetarian and do find it very hard do to cut down on carbs.
One problem is that I love potatoes. My breakfast porridge does fill me well, though.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Thanks. I think i am just going to cut down on bread and pasta, then take it from there. I dont want to go to extremes, unless i know i can do it.0

I'm vegetarian and switched to low carb about 3 years ago. This was for health reasons rather than weight, but I did as a side effect lost around 3 stone which was nice.
And have been much healthier since - both in terms of how I feel, but also borne out by test results I've had before/after the switch.
It's absolutely possible, and once you start you see it's not difficult really. There are plenty of options for what to eat out there.
I started with this book:

A couple of other good recipe books I use often are:

And this has some lovely unusual recipes:

Why don't you just cut out refined carbs? So no white pasta/bread and stick to wholemeal/brown?My debt free diary

Thanks. I already do this. Even the wholewheat/wholemeal carbs make me bloat. It's so uncomfortable, which is why i think a low carb diet will work for me.
I am going to just cut out the main carbs (rice, pasta, potatoes) and see what effect this has.
Making cauli 'rice' tonight, so that'll be interesting!0
