My teenager who is under 18 is due to go abroad - we are looking for a prepaid (Euros) card to give him so he (and us) don't having to worry about him carrying cash. We have looked at a lot of infomation on line however each card seems to need the person using it to be over 18. As it's an educational trip, without parents, we want him to be able to access funds when needed. Please can anyone advise on the best way forward? Thanks

Can't you obtain a card? If you then choose to give it to your son to use it's up to you - he doesn't need to be 18 to use it, it's not a credit card.0

We used FairFX for this, the main account holder needs to be over 18 but you can get secondary cards for 14-18 year olds and transfer funds between them, see https://www.fairfx.com/familyandfriends for details.
Others are available, as per http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/prepaid-travel-cards, but without trawling through all the Ts & Cs I don't know if they offer equivalent facilities.0 -
Can he then use it anywhere.. im guessing that if he can then it won't have a name on it, which was my worry? That's great! Thanks for your quick reply, that's a worry off 😀0

goHenry, sterling not Euros though

The only other alternative I know is to get one in the destination country. Could require an adult EU resident to co-sign / guarantee.0 -
If your son is between 11-18 Nationwide's FlexOne is fee free, which includes foreign transactions, it is also the visa exchange rate which is usually a better rate that these prepaid cards for going abroad.0

I'm not sure of age limits with this company, But the card is completely free in every country with euro, dollar and pound. It is also free to withdraw money in any currency, You can transfer to a different currency for free.
https://revolut.com
You will need a smart phone and the app, It isn't web based.0 -

FAQ on the site says:-
"In order to open a Revolut account you need to be a minimum of 18 years old."0
