We are travelling from Cornwall to Birmingham NEC arena to attend Insomnia next month.

They have special guests, a LAN hall, shows, BYOC (Bring Your Own Console) and lots of evening entertainment. Only £24 for a 1 day ticket too, or you can indoor camp (not sure of the camping or weekend prices).0 -
I think for Insomnia the weekend is around £55 & the camping is somewhere around £90, could be wrong on that though. I know they (Insomnia) are also having one in April/May in Edinburgh & they're also doing one I believe in Northern Ireland as well.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

I love Play Expo! the Blackpool one is the best imo. Lots of retro stuff but they have xbox too. They have events in the south of England and Scotland too.

This is tricky as you'll probably find there are really good ones for videogaming, and really good ones for boardgaming. However you'll probbaly find any trying to combine the two are nowhere near as good as one that does one of those well on it's own.
Videogames I know less about and seem to have been covered above by others anyway
On the Boardgame front:
The big UK one is the UK games Expo in Birmingham

If you could manage a small international hop the most well regarded one outside the USA is the annual Essen boardgaming fair in Germany

As with any 'good' convention book your local accomodation early.
On a less extravagant level have you googled/had a look to see if there are any good regular boardgaming clubs near where you live? Quite a few seem to have been springing up recently meeting on weekday evenings or weekends that meet to play games regularly in a pub etc (google or look on meetup.com)0 -
Insomnia looks brilliant, but if I wanted to join in a game I think it would be costing me a lot.
Only for hard core gamers methinks.0 -
Insomnia is my lifestyle. When I start playing slots I forget about time and real life. Fantastic graphics sounds and animation always bring a lot of excitement. I try not only to save money but earn it.0
