Radio Comps

Options
Just a quick question, has anyone on here won one of money prizes from a radio station? What was the phone call like?

I enter the ones open to my area and the no geographical restriction ones. But I can't help thinking that if someone phoned me and said I'd won money I'd end up hanging up thinking it was a scam. :o

Do they phone at 6pm when the comps end?
I just enter and forget...hoping to win something! :)

I won one with Rock FM a few months ago (it was open to certain postcodes only) it was one of those where you can have 30 online entries a day over about 3 or 4 days so I think I entered about 60-70 times in total. My last entry was about 10 mins before comp closed at 6pm, and I got the winning phone call at 6:11pm!
I must admit I was slightly sceptical at first, when I answered the phone to the DJ. He asked me stuff like confirm my name, whereabouts in Lancashire did I live (I don't, but do live within a permitted entry area! ), did I remember entering the competition, and what time did I enter (I just told him that I'd entered on and off throughout the day, which was fine).
And then he confirmed that I was the lucky winner of that day's £2000 prize :D I think I might have sounded a little underwhelmed but I still thought he might be joking up till that point!
He didn't actually tell me I was on air but looking back I think it must have been, as I've heard other winners since being called on air.
Hope that helps a bit?! xx

I won with Rock FM it where I had to live in a certain area it was a two day one so did 60 entries. I actually had like 8 missed by 6:30 and a voicemail from them asking to ring back ASAP, so I knew it was the real deal. I hope I wasn't on air he thought I was crying I was speechless. I don't think they can put you on air without consent!
Thanks to everyone's hard work in posting comps, and good luck to all :T An iPad A years supply of fudge A book Balance Festival tickets A set of recycled plant pots A £500 nights stay in Chelsea Thanks to everyone

When I first started comping, I entered a few random ones without really understanding or believing they were genuine. Thought it might win me something nice. I got a phonecall one night when I was heading out to cinema from some Northern radio station saying I was in with a chance of winning something and they would call me back if I was chosen. Yeah yeah, I thought - muppet - all these scammy people are gonna start ringing me... I really regretted entering as I really thought it was some scam. They called me back all excited saying I was in with a chance and they'd ask me three questions on air which I got right. I was SO disbelieving on the phone, it was embarrassing. He kept saying 'you don't believe me, do you' and I was saying 'nope' lol. OMG I am blushing remembering it. I didn't even tell my friends I was meeting, I didn't believe a word...

until a new TV, DVD, surround speakers, blu-ray player, sound bar, etc all turned up :o

That was in 2009 and got me the comping bug! Been at it ever since! Some put you on air, some don't. I think the current cash ones are not on-air ones, but I could be wrong! The text one (Wave I think) says they will contact you just after 6pm (which prob means 7pm).

I did win a grand last year on XFM and my BF was whooping in the background and I barely got one word out, let alone a sentence. He said 'nope, didn't get a word of that' and that was the extent of my radio appearance lol. It was Churchill's speech to one of Pulp's songs (I think) and I had to identify the band. Had the length of a song to text in, and they called straight away.

I would do it again, but would probably shut myself in a room alone to take the call!

    Jx

I won £2k in Sept with one of the Bauer radio stations. I was totally shocked but looking back, I think I may have been live on air, but I am not sure. The call came in at about 10am and the comp ended at 9am. They called me back an hour or so later to get bank details etc and the money was in my account a week later.
    2017 wins = £1350
    2016 wins = £125 (18 months off comps)
    2015 wins = £6,460
    2014 wins = £1,350

Oh forgot to add, the DJ said at the time that someone would ring me back the next day to either arrange to send cheque or take bank details to pay into bank. In fact, neither of these happened, instead a lad from the studio came to my house with a jiffy bag stuffed with 100 x £20 notes :o I actually felt a bit shifty paying it in to the bank, even though the jiffy bag had a label on it saying "Rock FM £2K A Day Winner" ;)

I won the key radio baur one recently where you can do 30 entries per day. You just get a quick call telling you the dj is going to call you soon live on air. told me to seem happy and surpised etc. Asked me what i would spend it on. Then that was it. Got another call half hour later asking for bank details and then was in bank in around 7-10 days.
    August-September 2017: Lots of stuff :)
