O/S Daily Thursday 4 February 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them x
Still dark here with a blustery wind and it has been raining during the night, looks like it's stopped for the moment, but no frost.
DH up and getting ready for work. DS1 up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, I will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was chicken in a creamy chicken sauce with mushrooms, mash, carrots, broad beans, roasted sweet potato (DS2) and LO cauli/broc cheese (me, DH and DS1). Tonight we'll be having spag bol, I'll be making it at some point today and leaving it in the saucepan so it's ready for me to just re-heat whilst the spagetti is cooking for dinner. I have a short meeting to go to at work at 4.30pm - so want everything to be done before I go to the meeting. It's just me and co-workers wanting to chat amongst ourselves about how the way we are working is/isn't working and how we are going to work so that we give the best service we can and we actually look out for each other etc. There's not going to be a management presence. Work yesterday wasn't overly busy - but steady.
Now on days' off but I'm working Saturday morning so weekend will seem rather short but I'll appreciate the extra money once I get it not doubt. I'll be doing all the normal chores - washing, drying and ironing, housework are the priority and I have to make a telephone call too.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all. Thanks for starting NMLC. Blustery and wet here this morning but feels mild. Still the normal rubbish wheelie to put out as we forgot last night. Can't get used to the change in collection day.
First and foremost Well Done DUMPLING!! Forever onwards now and no looking back! I bet your family are so proud of you.
We had a good old catch up of news and gossip last night at the carvery. It was unusually quiet there for some reason. We had a 20% off food voucher too so that made it even more enjoyable!
The DGDs are all still asleep but will be to waken up shortly. Peace no more! Mr TA said he had no bother with any of them after I had gone out last night but they had been warned!
A bit of shopping to get this morning but, as we will be away for Mr TA's treatment for three days, we don't need much. We might just pop in Sainsbury's for the odd bits we need this time.
Lunch is already spoken for - there's still some beef casserole left in the fridge from yesterday. That'll do nicely with a warm crusty roll when we get back from shopping. Not sure what dinner will be, I'll have a delve in the freezer shortly and see what tempts me!
Well time to wake the girlies up I think. Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all, another bad night so gave in any got up at 3. Have made a tiny hippopotamus.
Out for lunch with my dear friend yesterday, a lovely drive out of town to get there too. We suddenly realised that we have been friends for 24 years, have done all sorts together - but never just the two of us out to lunch. We have done things with the children, now all adults, eaten at each other's homes, drunk countless cups of tea, been away for weekends as families, comforted each other in the bad times, screeched with laughter at other times and in all those years, that was the first ever lunch out. I am incredibly lucky to have this particular friend.
Nothing to tell you about today, no fascinating plans, will make a meal this evening but that is about it.
Dumpling, hooray, great stuff!
Deleted_User, I don't really know but perhaps a little message of love? I know that I used to see my dad in the street after he died and perhaps less importantly, I kept seeing one of my dogs for a long time after her death.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all,
Cold here today but no rain atm, im of to work today (working with farty pants)
Dinner tonight will be something and chips will have a look in the freezer after this.
Hopefully plumber is coming this afternoon to sort out the hot water, I was so tired last night I could not even walk up to mums for a shower, so has a miserable strip wash in the bathroom sink :rotfl: Fingers crossed he can fix it !
Dumpling well done you :T it will do you the world of good !
Need to do a wash tonight and will have to put it in the TD as its work t-shirts which I need for tomorrow.
Right have good days all xx0 -
Morning All
Damp and dreary out there. Yesterday was glorious, just wish I had been off to enjoy it!
WM just about to finish with a throw from the living room, washed 2 yesterday and they smell nice and fresh. Got stuck into cleaning the kitchen when I got home, that too smells nice and fresh! Cleared away lots of stuff that was loitering including flowers that were past their best.
Work and hospice today but apart from that nothing exciting. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
A 'doing day' today - washing, cleaning, shopping etc it's bin day here and blowing a gale, will have to weight the bin lids down.
Hoping Environmental Health inspector will pop in this PM, as I,m fudge making and they need to see my processes - hope I pass, fingers crossed
Chicken curry tonight, with naan breads.
Nothing else to report, except DD milked her first cow by hand yesterday - take care all XNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!
£300/£1300 -
Morning all.
Only one bad dream last night but I wouldn't class it as a nightmare so that's ok. Hubby and I have been talking a lot about his retirement. I've told him I won't be pushed into anything but I do know some changes will have to be made when the time is right. Anyway back to the dream. Hubby came back from working away with the announcement he'd bought us a bungalow. All was well till I saw it..... There's no chance of that happening thankfully but it's just another reminder as to how different we are and how impulsive he is.
Anyway, time to get up. The bed is so warm but my Grandson will be here shortly.
Onwards and forwards

Morning everyone.
Grey and wet so far, can't complain after yesterday.
TV man came and had to change the satellite dish so that took some time but now service is restored and my neighbour is happy again.
I'm going back into town to get Lino - the power came back in town about 3pm yesterday so I didn't bother then as the TV man was still up his ladder. After town I have to drive to my lovely carpenter and drop off the brass coat hooks for the rack he's making for me. He lives high up on a hill with access by a rough track. He tells me he's had the track repaired so I'll chance my car up it!
Dumpling - once again you're a star. Well done, I hope that you're able to carry on going out and overcome your fears.
The discussion about seeing passed loved ones is thought provoking. I have no belief in that however my (now passed) brother swore blind that our father 'visited' him within an hour of his death. My brother lived in Melbourne and my father near Glasgow. I never knew if this was genuine or a flight of fancy from my brother who, perhaps, felt guilty for not being with him. Not that he should have.
Food will be using up eggs in some way. I'm off to Glasgow for the weekend so not going to defrost anything.
Have a safe journey TA.
I hope everyone has a good Thursday.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's dry here for the moment but a bit chilly still. I have everything crossed that Spring comes early this year. My hydrangea bush has a few flowers on it already. Spring is my absolute favourite season so any signs of it cheers me up loads.
Hubby has gone off to work this morning and it's DD14's turn to stay home today with huge tonsils and a temperature. I have already had letters about her attendance but she seems to come down with every bug that is going round. Anyway, she is tucked up in bed and I will be checking on her all day.
I didn't get round to making a bolognese sauce yesterday so that is what I will be getting on with today. We had a chinese takeaway last night so there is plenty left for my lunch today. It always tastes nicer the next day anyway.
Well that's all my news for now, I'm still so happy that I went out yesterday, my family were so pleased too. Thank you for all your nice messages, I feel really supported. I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone,
Up late as had rotten nights sleep, bad dreams like others and am feeling low today.
Wet and mild here so think will go through the house so can really enjoy the weekend, tonight we are off out for a meal with three of our friends so something to look forward to.
Take care everyone x0 -
Dumpling one step at a time. It's all too easy to live in your own protected bubble. It's safe and cosy and there's little risk of someone upsetting you or you saying the wrong thing. I have to force myself into the world when I go to see Mother. On a weekend hubby is usually with me when we go shopping and he is my security blanket. He rescues me when I get lost and you can guarantee if I go into a shop I walk out in the opposite direction to where I've been. I have no sense of direction whatsoever. All these things I'd have to learn if I was on my own but I'd rather not.
Grandson is on form this morning. Only one temper tantrum as yet and that was because I wouldn't go in the kitchen because he told me to.
Millie dog is being a bit of a pain. She's always demanding on Thursdays. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
