Why on earth would he say no to 45 hours of work per week if he's 18k in debt? Couldn't he do his OU degree at a slower pace or just suck it up and work + study at the same time? I just don't see how he can justify it unless he hasn't had his LBM yet?

He will already be studying his course over a period of 6 years part time, 16-18 hrs of study per week minimum. There is no way he could of done this whilst working 45 hours a week, travelling for 10 hours a week on top of this, it just wouldnt of worked. He canot do the degree any slower than he is now, 6 yrs is the part time option. I can see your point in the sense that it may look stupid to have turned down a full time job when he has this much debt but we are trying to think about making a better future for us both, plus the full time job was only min wage any how so wasnt like 20 grand or something!
  • fyi all he is currently working on ave 26-30 hours + a week so almost full time anyway.
  • Also as your partner has spent 7 years working as a personal trainer would he not be able to advertise as a personal trainer? I would say if he could get a couple of regular clients a week that would earn him some much needed extra cash

Just out of curiosity, are you planning on supporting him financially for 6 years until he finishes this part time degree he's just started (how is he paying for that?)? And why are you the one writing these messages, and not him?

Some people have full time jobs and study part time, why can't he? He doesn't have much choice, does he? High level of debt, but refusing to take up a full time job because he wants to study to 'better' himself... luckily he's got all bills and rent covered. I wish I had that luxury to go back to school.

I wish you all the best...

I see no reason not to work full time and do an OU degree, my DD has returned to uni full time, she has a 2 year to look after plus a home and a partner, it can be done

yes i am planning on supporting us, in the interim until he is in a position to start contributing towards household bills. He is funding the degree through an ordinary student loan thru student finance wales, like anyone else that goes to uni these days. Im writing these messages as he is currently in work doing overtime to earn some extra money!!!

If you refer to one of my earlier posts it says he is already doing nearly 30 hours a week, if not more which I believe is classed as full time. So no, hes not refusing to take on a full time job, he just has a "collection of jobs" that make up full time hours....

he is working full time, he just has 3 jobs to make his hours up to 30 a week which i believe is classed as full time.
  • just to bring this thread back to its intended purpose, i came on here for some financial advice about which card he should pay back first, pros and cons of DMPs etc etc....
