Is it the fact that you are asking for help with travelthat will damage your 'credability',or simply the fact that you are signing on?

I can't believe that any employer would consider that being a jsa claimant is a reason to deny them employment.

Being on JSA isn't a mark of a person being a failure or being unable to perform their role as well as anyone else, and Ipersonally would seriously questionany employer/industry/person who believed that it was.

However email would be a reasonable level of proof to most employers ......after all most employers don't ring up their customers to check their employees really have a client meeting to attend so the fact an advisor felt the email wasn't enough could raise doubt about the applicant before they even arrived at the interview. It's a professional role not a NMW position something the advisor clearly doesn't understand. I'd take it higher in writing where it will hopefully be dealt with by someone with a better understanding of professional roles and what the unspoken implications of checking up could do.

And if you really believe that been on JSA doesn't put a candidate at a disadvantage when in competition with those in employment in certain professional roles then you don't know what you are talking about. It shouldn't but it does ....people who, havenever being unemployed have unfair prejudices sometimes and pretending they don't is unrealistic

    Thats harsh  but true.

Should always prep for interviews and make sure you're able to get to where you need to get to.

As said, up to JCP, i was on jsa for about a month last year, i asked for travel but they said ''no'' because I was working in a different city. not a problem though.

If you are applying for a professional, well paid job it is an indication that you've been out of work for a significant time. Of course, you'd think they would find this out anyway, but it depends what "spin" you've put on your CV. And it also removes the explanation that you have chosen to have some time off before finding a new job.

There's an assumption made, rightly or wrongly, that the most employable people, when they have been made redundant or let go, will find a new job before their redundancy payments/notice period expires and their funds get low enough that they have to get involved with the jobcentre at all.

If someone has been summarily dismissed without notice so have had no income from day 1 of their unemployment, then again, that's something that raises questions.

And as for a contractor, not being able to find a contract is fine, but you are supposed to get paid sufficiently when you are working to see you through fallow periods. So you would have gone from self-employed to claiming JSA, which implies a long time out of work.

Either way having the jobcentre contact an employer you are going to for a professional position says to that employer that you might not be getting the best of the best here.
