It isn't just an NHS thing by the way. Implant retained dentures probably aren't something routinely done by your average private dentist either. The implant training courses are long and expensive then your indemnity costs would double to cover the costs if something went wrong. As an example my standard indemnity is £4000 ish per year. If I so much as restored a single implant (no place I mean restore i.e. crown it or use for denture) I would have to pay an addition £4000 a year. So needless to say I don't touch implants!
Do they NEED implants?? I have seen plenty of dentures that replace a couple of teeth extremely well fitting and very resistant to removal without an implant in sight.0
