Use a wallpaper steamer instead?

I bought some new curtains and hung them up without ironing them (well, I tried but the creases were deep and my iron isn't very good so it wasn't making much difference). I would have had to have washed them and ironed them damp to get the creases out, so I hung them up hoping the creases would fall out eventually.
They haven't, of course!
I think I could use a steamer but don't have one. I do have something for steaming wallpaper off and was wondering if I could clean this up and use this instead? After all, steam is steam, right?
