A total lottery as to who you will speak to on the other end of the phone. Unfortunately the NRAM operative has to follow the prescribed script. Nothing personal just business. Some will have life experience to call on as well when dealing with incoming callers. Which makes it easier to express empathy. Not easy either for them dealing with people all day who are potentially going to lose their homes.

As has already been suggested sit down with your Mum at the appropriate time and make a plan. A lender will be far more receptive to a constructive proposal. That's realistic for the borrower to attain.

Even making capital payments of some kind now to reduce the mortgage balance. Is a way of showing goodwill and intent.

Bummer. It was a long shot but worth trying, people take these things out and then forget.
