Help me find out what happened to my SERPs

Hello all
I would really appreciate some help with this as I have not managed to get anywhere so far.

In 1980s I was contracted out of serps by a door to door salesman from Brittania (I was just out of school to be honest had no idea what it was all about).

Since then I've had lots of different company pensions but I never tracked the whole serps thing. So I do not know whether I'm still contracted out with Britannia, whether I'm contracted back in, etc. I have no paperwork, no rep's details, etc. So I don't have much to go on.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction as to what I should/can do?I really want to make sure I know what's happening with my pension and getting everything in order. I remember a few years ago using a pension tracer or something and it came back with nothing.

Many thanks for any help you can give me.
Thank you
TP

Contracting out started in 1988. So, it has to be from then onwards.

Did you ever receive statements from Britannia?

It is possible you contracted out on paper but it never happened. For example, if you were a member of a company pension that was contracted out, then that trumped a personal contracting out arrangement and nothing would be paid to the individual arrangement.
So I do not know whether I'm still contracted out with Britannia, whether I'm contracted back in, etc.

You cant contract out any more and havent been able to for some years.

Contact Phoenix Life. (Britannia was bought by Century Life. Which in turn was bought by Britannic and ended up with Phoenix).

They can trace you from name, address (current and past will be needed), date of birth and NI number.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Yes it would have been about 1988 or 1989. I don't recall ever receiving paperwork but of course it is many years ago so may have done.

I will contact Phoenix Life as a first step, thank you.
    Much appreciated
