Capquest Question...Capquestion
DebtFreeGonnabe
Hi everyone,
Been reading on this forum for a while, now something's come up that's made me need to post and ask some advice.
My partner's mum received a letter from Capquest a few days ago saying they had bought her 18k(!) debt from HBOS and she needs to call them to arrange a settlement. The main problem with that is she's never had any kind of account, loan or CC with HBOS.
After reading a few stories from other people on here I'm guessing they're just fishing and happened to find someone with the same name. Would it be better to ignore it or send the prove it letter?
Also, Capquest sent the letter to her married name (divorced 12 years ago, changed back to maiden name 8 years ago), so if she does send a letter should she mention this? Sign it from her married or divorced name? I just don't want them getting new information to chase her up with once she clears up this issue.
Sorry for rambling and I hope that all made sense.
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
Could it be an old forgotten debt from when she was married ?
Best not to ignore, but send the provit letter, see what comes back.
Use the name they have for her.
If it turns out it is her account, chances are its statute barred now.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Prove it letter here --> Letter when you know nothing about about the debt - AKA "Prove it" letter
or you could send
--> Hybrid letter stating that you have no knowledge of the debt AND that it would be statute barred regardless.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
