Hi
Would really appreciate any advice. DSD dropped out of college last year and is now supposed to be working full time for a family business (although I don't think she is actually showing up often). Anyway she is now 18 and paying her mother rent from her "salary" so we would like to stop paying maintenance. We've always paid much more than the minimum and it has been a real struggle at times. Anyway I guess I just want to check this is legal and morally correct? I feel like at the moment we're helping to support DSD in her choice of not going to work and generally being "lazy", DSDs word not mine!

The legal requirement is that you pay whilst she is in full-time non-advanced education.
Be aware that some apprenticeships count as education, so it is possible to leave college and work four days a week and do a day at college.
As long as DSD is not in full-time education, you can halt the payments. Might be wise to speak to and then write to the PWC and say that the payments will cease from x date? That give PWC time to provide eveidence of an apprenticeship if that exists.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Your post suggests that the payments are made by private agreement, if so then you could stop paying. However if there is a case open with CSA even if payment is made direct to the PWC you should contact CSA and tell them that the child is no longer in education. They will check that child benefit has stopped and close the case. If there is a case open just stopping payments could potentially cause problems which will take time and effort to resolve later so it is best to check with CSA first.0

JustonTime is ight, If you have had any dealings with CMO or CSA write tot them to advise that Dau. is no longer in full time education.
If not, write to your ex to confirm that as Dau. is no longer in full time education you will be stipopping payments. Obviously it is a matter for you as to whether you decide to offer Dau and direct help or support either nw o if, in future, she were to apply for any new courses and seek to go on tofuther or higher education.All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
Thanks for the replies. We have always paid privately with no CSA involvement and DSD is no doing an apprenticeship, she has been offered a nice, reasonably paid job with her family company. Anyway have taken the advice and spoken to the mum. Unfortunately it transpires that DSD is not showing up at all really
anyway have agreed a slightly lower amount until DSD pulls her socks up!
It's such a shame actually, would gladly pay the same if DSD would go back to college, she's capable of so much if only she had some motivation.

Doesn't this just enable DSD to continue in her current ways?
Both her parents should be setting out what she has to do - go to work and pay her way!0
